This week I've been working on a few textured background canvases... in preparation for a demo I'm doing this coming Sunday for our art group. (Figured I should have some examples of what I'm showing!)
I started by crinkling up a dictionary page, smoothing it out, and then adhering it to a 4 x 4 inch canvas board with matte medium, scrunching up the page to leave large wrinkles.
After it dried a bit, I added acrylic paint layers - deliberately letting the text from the background show through.
Then painted the background mountain, which still needs a bit of work...
And added some webbed ribbon to start the foreground texture.
This is where I am as of right now. More to come on this soon!
Sharing with my friends at Paint Party Friday. Do join in and visit to see what beautiful art they've created too!

How fun to watch this little piece of precious art grow! Love the added texture at the end and the texture from the crumpled pages in the beginning step! HPPF!
I really like this so far, really interesting texture. Can't wait to see it finished. That mountain is fabulous.

newspaper is such wonderful art material- I don't use enough of it. This is going to look a treat when done. Happy PPF my pal.
So fun to see the process. What a neat idea to use a very crinkly printed page as the textured background. I had never seen the webbed ribbon before.Good luck with your class
