HuMp DaY Haiku - For Jenny

Some folks seem to like
writing little weekly poems
so we're here again....

For Jenny Short and any other haiku crazy folks out there... :) We're back from vacation a bit early.

A year or so ago, I started doing Hump Day Haiku with Carla Sonheim's Silly classes and decided as a challenge for myself, I'd continue. I have found that creating a haiku
(non rhyming poem with 5 - 7 - 5 syllables per line) feeds my soul. I especially like creating them to go with my photos and art.

Would you like to share a haiku you have written?

You may include a haiku in the comments, OR you may copy your blog post url (featuring a haiku) and add a link to your blog using Mr. Linky. And consider visiting other contributors blogs to see what they've created and say hello.

Drawing Imaginary Animals

Oh my goodness! One of my favorite artists, Carla Sonheim, has a new book out, Drawing and Painting Imaginary Animals. I was lucky enough to take her Imaginary Animals course at Artfest a couple of years ago, and LOVED it! Here's one of my wacky creations from that class...

Carla is doing a two week blog party announcing her new book. I urge you to check it out and take part. There are tutorials and give aways and all kinds of fun stuff!

Morning Dew

Early morning dew
sparkles on chrysanthemums.
Tiny heart surprise

I see a tiny black heart in the center of the chrysanthemum. If you need to squint to see it, that's perfectly acceptable. And if you want to call me fanciful, that's acceptable too. :)

Postcards from Paradise - Remembering

Last year in October, I participated in Postcards from Paradise "Remembering" the four Sundays before Dia de los Muertos. Postcards from Paradise is hosted by Rebecca at recuerda mi corazon. This Sunday Rebecca posted comments from a variety of those who participated, and included the one where I remembered my Grandma Rose. You can see Rebecca's beautiful post here. I plan to participate again this year, it's such a loving reminder of those who have left us.

This is my Grandma Rose, with me and my big sister Jane.

It's appropriate to think about remembering right now; we're headed out of town this weekend for my Uncle Warren's memorial service and interment. We'll be with lot's of family and doing lot's of reminiscing. It's all good.

On another note, I'm pleased that both my Vintage and Art Etsy shops have been keeping me busy! A few packages are sent off each week, which makes me very happy!  It's also helping reduce the "stuff" we're downsizing from our collections and that I'm de-stashing from my vintage ephemera and books... and that's a VERY GOOD THING! Seriously! *nods head* You don't even want to see my office where it's all stored. O.o

Happy Monday everyone!

Restart Button!

Check out this post from Scoutie Girl

It's my kick in the butt #5! Things keep putting themselves in front of my face (especially the past three days) about moving and getting exercise for a variety of reasons.

I love what she says, that it helps her get out of her head and get her creativity jump started. I need that right now!

So, okay, I'm listening. Daily walks are back on the agenda. Now where are my walking shoes?

HuMp DaY Haiku - Will be taking a vacation

I want to be here!
Camping in among the trees
in our motorhome

Wishing I could be there now, in my little motor home camping in the woods at our favorite park.

Our little motor home is not running, and hubby's mechanical attempts have been unsuccessful so far. He's been able to get us going in the past, but it looks like it will take more money that we have to spend right now.

And so, I wistfully wish to be where I cannot go right now... in my little motor home in the big woods.

On another note, HuMp DaY Haiku will be taking a little vacation. I have so many things to try to do in the next month and a half that I really need to focus on them for a few weeks.

Thanks to all you who have played along so regularly, I love seeing your creative work!

We'll be back in early October.

Things I want...

The workers up the block to finish their work so I don't have to listen to heavy machinery while drinking my morning cup of tea.
Warm weather!
My ankle to stop hurting
Someone to organize my office and studio
My son to find a reasonably priced apartment in a safe neighborhood
More hours in the day
My muse to come back

So, how's your Monday going?

Textured background canvas

This week I've been working on a few textured background canvases... in preparation for a demo I'm doing this coming Sunday for our art group. (Figured I should have some examples of what I'm showing!)

I started by crinkling up a dictionary page, smoothing it out, and then adhering it to a 4 x 4 inch canvas board with matte medium, scrunching up the page to leave large wrinkles.

After it dried a bit, I added acrylic paint layers - deliberately letting the text from the background show through.

Then painted the background mountain, which still needs a bit of work...

And added some webbed ribbon to start the foreground texture.

This is where I am as of right now. More to come on this soon!

Sharing with my friends at Paint Party Friday. Do join in and visit to see what beautiful art they've created too!

Little visitor

So, I decided to picked a few nasturtium yesterday for two reasons: 1) to update the flower photo for the little bottles I sell on Etsy and 2) to use them to cheer up the kitchen.

Look who was hiding inside one of the blooms...

We took him back out into the garden...

HuMp DaY Haiku - Little Brown Bottles

Little brown bottles
once apothecary jars.
How would you use them?

I have a stash of these little bottles, and they are quite a popular item in my Etsy shop. Wonder what folks are creating with them?

This is what I've been doing with them...

I started doing Hump Day Haiku with Carla Sonheim's Silly classes...  and decided as a challenge for myself, I'd continue.  In this process, I have found that creating a haiku (non rhyming poem with 5 - 7 - 5 syllables per line) feeds my soul. I especially like creating them to go with my photos and art.

Silent Guardian

Silent guardian
keeping vigilant watch and
sending healing prayers.

Thinking of two friends especially today. Both have undergone surgery in the past few days and I'm focusing on their speedy recovery and quick healing.
