Blue Bird

It's Friday, and I'm playing with Paint Party Friday again this week, hosted by Eva and Kristin. I'm showing a new little 4x4 mixed media canvas I finished this afternoon.
Available in my Etsy

The colors are much richer than the photo shows, more yellowy green in the background. Ah well!

This little bluebird has come to bring me, hopefully, a better frame of mind. I've had a rough week or two, and am a bit in the doldrums today. Among other things, (long boring stories) our weather has turned chilly again, and we're headed into Autumn without actually having summer. (I don't count 2-3 days over 80 as summer, sorry!)  It makes me grumpy to have to wear socks to keep my toes warm at the end of August.
And since I'm in such a funk already without sufficient sunlight, I'm going shopping for SAD lights: one for my office and one for my reading chair and one for my studio. If I'm this blue at the end of August, December will freak me out! *tee hee*

Check in with the other Paint Party Friday artists and see what beautiful art they have created this week.

Thanks for stopping by!

We had a Summer like that, our Autumn was better than Summer, but now I am excited to be heading into Spring, maybe this Summer will be better (touch wood).

Love your little bird, looks very detailed for such a small canvas.

this is beautiful - I love the colours and the background - it's a really lovely piece.
I can totally relate to the lack of summer thing. It's raining really heavily outside as I type this. we've also had 2-3 days here and there from May of proper sunshine and it's pretty soul destroying to go another year without having to unpack my summer clothes from the vacuum pack storage thingy at the top of my wardrobe!!

No one would know from your delightful bird that you are feeling blue. Your colors are wonderful and not to worry, our wonderful colors of fall are on the way. (and for me, Isaac).

Really sweet painting, love the mix and the colors!
We didn't have a great summer (in Finland) weather wise either, but after a weeks holiday in Greece, I kind of started to appreciate the cooler weather! ;)

Hi Helen, I love your bird. I think it looks really great. Nice job. Don't be blue, just be happy that life is great no matter what. A Haiku for you and Happy PPF!

Life is so darn short
Take each day and be happy
Breathe, smile and pray.

How could creating this little guy not cheer you up?

Hope you get a bit more summer before August is all done and dusted.

Your blue bird is lovely. For me the cool blue sky days that start showing up the end of August and early Sept. are my favorites. I like to soak them in before winter gray shows up. Happy PPF

Lovely painting. I have trouble getting my colors to show right too and We are doing the same thing as you.. having hardly ANY summer.. grrr. we got a great SAD light at Costco last year and used it all winter. I love it. Need another one for my studio too. Strange weather we are having the last couple years. HPPF

This is so beautiful. The color combination is gorgeous! As for me, I'm ready for Autumn. It has been the hottest summer on record around here and I'm ready to quit sweating! Those SAD lights are quite effective for the winter.

Those sad lights are a great idea. I hope the blue bird helps you cheer up. Popped in from Artists in Blogland.

I love this piece, and I bet it's even better in person, since it's stunning in the picture!

It's down in the 60s at night here, but still 90s during the day. I wouldn't mind wearing socks and being chilly, but then I grew up in Michigan and don't mind the cold (but don't like the humidity, thank you very much!) I guess I'm never completely satisfied...

I love that you painted such a sunny bird to cheer yourself up. It certainly makes me happy! Come on down to Barranquilla. It NEVER goes below 75 here.

I always love your little birdies Helen! This one is lovely. I hope you get some warmth and sun in your neck of the woods soon. Vitamin D caplets always seem to help me in the winter with SAD. Have you tried that? xo

Wonderful painting! The details (such as the texts and the shading of the belly of the bird, the lighter colors in the center of the canvas) draw the eye to your focal point- a beautiful bird!

A stunning little bird painting Helen, he looks very majestic!
I hope you're feeling better this week but maybe if I tell you I haven't seen my toes since May you might feel a little better!
Although I'm in Australia...this winter has been wet and chilly!
We're supposed to be into Spring officially on Saturday but I just hope someone tells the weather ;D
