Camping in among the trees

in our motorhome

Wishing I could be there now, in my little motor home camping in the woods at our favorite park.

Our little motor home is not running, and hubby's mechanical attempts have been unsuccessful so far. He's been able to get us going in the past, but it looks like it will take more money that we have to spend right now.

And so, I wistfully wish to be where I cannot go right now... in my little motor home in the big woods.

On another note, HuMp DaY Haiku will be taking a little vacation. I have so many things to try to do in the next month and a half that I really need to focus on them for a few weeks.

Thanks to all you who have played along so regularly, I love seeing your creative work!

Abstract disaster!

Well, maybe not totally a disaster, but it's close. I need advice... and who better to give me art advice than the Paint Party Friday artists!  

It seemed such a good idea! The abstract is based on this photo from a hike my husband and I took two years ago while camping at Ft Ebey on Whidbey Island, Washington. I love that park! Lot's of cool trails AND ocean beach. 

And this is the disaster: 

I started by texturing the 8x8 inch canvas with molding paste, painted a light green background and started applying paint with a natural sponge. It was looking kind of okay, and then I decided it needed more "light", so I added some back in buff paint with a bit additional green color...  which messed it up. And there she stands. Blah! Lost my urge to finish this little disaster.

Ah well, I may just paint over with gesso and start again. My inclination (now) is to lay the basic color lines down and then use the natural sponge to replicate the leafy look. One should sometimes think things out before one begins. But that would take some of the adventure out, don't you think?  :)

If anyone has advice on how to save my abstract disaster without painting over it entirely, I'd be delighted (and grateful) to hear it.

Sorting through digital photos (while cataloging and trying to make some order from the chaos of months and numbers) I came across these from a trip to Artist Point at Mt Baker. Very cool moss covered rocks and gnarly old tree roots on the road down to Nooksack Falls.

If you look closely you can see faces peeking from the moss. And perhaps you'll find a heart or two as well. 

Isn't it fun when nature reveals it's mysteries?
